Term 5 Weekly Objectives

Objectives for T5 W1:

English – Immersion in our new key text,’Pax’.

Maths – We will be looking at statistics and using a variety of graphs and tables to read information.

Topic – Geography locating where the Mayans came from.

Objectives for T5 W2:

English – Introducing the narrative structure for our end of unit outcome relating to our new key text, ‘Pax’.

Maths – In the 2 sessions we have next week, we will re-visiting addition and subtraction with a bigger focus on consolidating written columnar subtraction. In fluency, we will re-visit mental addition and subtraction.

Topic – We will be continuing with our introduction on ‘Mayan Madness’ by looking at Mayan artefacts and will be looking forward to the Mayan work shop at Cadbury trip.

Objectives for T5 W3:

Maths: column addition and subtraction

English: appropriate tense, specifically the past perfect (had been) and the present perfect (has been) in narrative writing

Topic: Mayan masks and jewellery-making after i-pad research

Objectives for T5 W4:

In maths we will be re-visiting mental multiplication and division skills, using partitioning, factor pairs and knowledge of  multiples.

In English we will be writing a diary entry and continuing to apply appropriate tenses in our writing.

In topic, during our visit from a puppeteer, we will learn about the Mayan creation story and make shadow puppets, then we will write the story and focus on art.

Objectives for T5 W5:

In maths we will review formal written methods for multiplication and division

In English we will write an adventure story 

In topic we will continue with jewellery-making and discuss the collapse of the Maya.

Year 5 are enjoying learning about keeping healthy and eating well in Health Squad with Bristol Sport coaches/ Bristol Flyers.

The PSFA funded a visit from illustrator James Nunn. We enjoyed printing our book covers!

Re-immersion in our key text, Phoenix! Just like the phoenix in our book, we created our own! This also links in with our music, where we have explored Stravinsky’s ‘firebird’

We performed Kate Wakeling’s poem ‘Comet’ which has to be said very quickly and in as few breaths as possible!

Explorer dome gave a WOW start to our space topic

Take a look at some of our work and sometimes us in the classroom. You are always welcome to come into school and take a closer look. You can see from the displays in our classrooms the variety of topics we cover. As the year progresses, the displays change. By July, you will be able to see the whole range of subjects we have covered. Our Working walls help us learn – the content builds as the term progresses.
