The PSFA – Parent, Staff and Friends Association – is made up of all the parents, carers, teachers and staff associated with The Tynings School. As a parent of a child at The Tynings, you are automatically a member!

The PSFA is a direct link between the school and parents, and as such it performs a number of functions. First and foremost, we raise money to buy items for the school that enrich the learning journey of every child in the school. (To find out more about the kind of items the PSFA has funded recently, click on the ‘Where does the money go?’ link.)

We raise money by organising annual events such as the Summer and Christmas Fayres, discos, and the Christmas Shop, as well as special one-off events, such as the recent sponsored climb and the Easter Treasure Hunt.

The PSFA is also a channel for communication between parents and teachers and allows parents to have input into the school life of their children.

The PSFA is a registered charity (number 1027109)and a member of PTA-UK, the national charity representing parent teacher associations.

All PSFA events can be view on the school calendar

The 100 Club

The 100 Club is the Tynings’ lottery. Each month, a number (between 1 and 100) is drawn at random at a PSFA meeting. It costs £1/month and there is a prize of £25 every month.

It costs £1 per month for a number, and you can pay by cheque or direct debit. Numbers are kept by the holder of that number from one month to the next and are dependent on availability.

If you’d like to take part, please contact the PSFA

Any profit made from each draw goes to the PSFA, which means it goes directly towards enriching the school life of children at The Tynings.

Where does the money go?

One of the main functions performed by the PSFA is fundraising, and every penny of the money we raise goes directly towards enriching the school experience of children at The Tynings.

Sometimes, teachers make a request to the PSFA for items for their classroom, such as digital cameras, or for items for their year group, such as the Team Tynings sports kit. At other times, the school might approach the PSFA for funding for a larger item, such as the play trail equipment that we are currently raising money to buy and install. Elsewhere, the committee or a PSFA member (e.g. a parent) may suggest an item they would like to see purchased for the school. In all these cases, the PSFA committee will discuss the request for funding and make a decision based on affordability and benefit to the school.

Thankfully, the PSFA is able to help in so many different ways. Here are some of the things we have purchased for the school recently – all with funds raised through our school-based events:

  • Team Tynings sports kit – 15 Team Tynings polo shirts were provided for the Junior children to wear when representing the school at sporting events.
  • Five digital cameras for classrooms.
  • A Friendship Bench for the school playground.
  • Display boards for the school.
  • New reading materials for the school.

In addition, the PSFA regularly funds classroom donations and contributes to school events. Here’s how:

  • The PSFA give each classroom a cash donation to fund extra supplies.
  • The PSFA funds the annual supply of scrap for the PlayPod.
  • At each Infant and Junior Sports Day, the PSFA provides juice drinks for the children.
  • Each year, when the Year 6 children come to the end of their time at The Tynings, the PSFA provides them with a leaving gift.
